Rent-A-Mum – Family Care

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Is there a fee to register with RENT-A-MUM?
No. All you need do is request a child-minder from us and we will then look for someone suitable for you.
  2. What are the duties expected of a nanny/child-minder?
Our nannies are professionals who are experienced in child-care and work to promote a happy and loving environment, aiming to stimulate all aspects of the child’s development. They are expected to take charge of the children in the absence of their parents, including all tasks relating to the children’s wellbeing. They are not expected to do housework beyond taking care of the children’s rooms and tidying up after themselves.
  3. Do you provide background information on your nannies?
When we have found a nanny/child-minder suitable for your needs, RENT-A-MUM will give you a brief run-down on her name, age, nationality, qualifications and professional history.
  4. Can I meet the nanny/child-minder first?
For longer assignments and live-in work the nanny/child-minder is quite happy, and naturally would prefer, to meet with you and the children first. However, we do ask for your understanding in this regard. Our nannies are busy people who can be called to an assignment at very short notice. They are also booked well in advance and may not be able to meet with you immediately. Your patience is greatly appreciated. Please note that if the client wishes to meet with the nanny for temporary assignments of 20 hours or less, there will be a charge of HK$200 payable to the interviewee.
  5. Should I provide food?
For full day and live-in work you should provide food for the nanny. For shorter assignments and evening baby-sits, the provision of food is entirely to your discretion.
  6. What happens if I need to cancel?
We look at every case individually but generally we levy a 50% cancellation charge if less than 24 hours’ notice is given.
  7. How much notice should I give when requesting a nanny/child-minder?
We suggest you give as much notice as possible for live-in and longer term assignments, however RENT-A-MUM has placed nannies before with less than an hour to spare so please, always give us a try!
